About Us
Strongest adaptive on Earth mission
Strongest adaptive on Earth wholeheartedly believes in a set of rules and guidelines providing safe and fair competition in “adaptive Strongman”. We formed using the established and proven methods used in Paralympics, CrossFit and other adaptive sports, federations. However, Strongest Adaptive on Earth stands alone on its own rules regulations and policies, while also advised by a committee of adaptive athletes.
Hi, I’m Kari
Was born in Thompson Manitoba January 4th 1974. I came out fighting the second I got here because I was 2.5 months premature in the middle of no where. I was born with a mission, a purpose.
My disability occurred at the age of 29 but honestly, I was always a sickly child. I slept a lot more than the typical girl my age and missed lots of school because I was always ill.
At 29, I was the average woman with 2 children and 2 step children. Then one day, I was washing and waxing my floors when I noticed eye pain when I would move my eye. By the end of that week, I had no vision at all in my right eye. I ended up being diagnosed with optic neuritis. Then, that led to my multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
I dealt with my symptoms well for the next 15 years. I raised my children and had a typical life. Then things changed drastically. My symptoms worsened and I found life much easier to function from a wheelchair. Then from there, I became bedridden.
I ended up being placed into a rehabilitation/nursing home to try to help me regain strength and try to get better. I started out with resistance bands and lots of physio therapy. I also came to find that many of my symptoms came from own mind. I stayed laying in bed 24/7 because I thought it’s all I had to offer the world. Once being discharged from the hospital after nearly 5 months, I had to try to keep up my strength. So I trained with soup cans and resistance bands. Then my husband started doing strongman and shortly after I joined him. He had the privilege of watching the Magnus Ver Magnusson Strongest adaptive strength games and he came home in excitement and had me convinced I could do this too. My first competition, I only pressed 72 lbs and my deadlift was a whopping 225lbs. I went out there and tried my best . Then over the next few years I worked very hard. Training every second day for 3 hours at a time. I put on muscle and kept improving.
Now, I am the 3x strongest adaptive woman. With many national and world records. My disability is still there and I deal with horrible pain on a daily basis but I try my best. My main goal is to try to show other people with disabilities or without that your reward comes from hard work, bravery, commitment and determination. Nobody is excluded, as long as you put in the hard work then anything is possible.
I want Strongest Adaptive On Earth to give adaptive athletes a safe, organized place for athletes to feel like they have somewhere to show their hard work. I want records to be documented a published for the world to see what they can do. I want them to get the recognition they deserve for their hard work. I also want them to have room for growth. I want them to be able to have the ability just like able bodied athletes to become pros. Here, their hard work will get the recognition it’s deserved. I have tremendous pride in what I do and, I want that to be shared with the world.
Hi, I’m Emmanuel
I am Kari's partner, training partner and handler.
I volunteered for this endeavor, in hopes to move forward the sport of adaptive strongman. I strongly believe the future and growth of the sport is in making easily available rules, regulations and classifications for all, from federation, corporations, promoters and the athletes themselves.
Where anyone in the world can look up our handbook and know their classification by their own limitations.
Where a novice athlete, coach or promotor can look up an event and know exactly how it is to be performed by athletes from different classes, rules and regulations for the equipment used and the activity performed.
We hope to set the standard and ruling guidelines not as a ruling authority but as representatives of the sport
"From The Athletes for The Athletes"
It was important to us to utilize a committee of athletes to advise over our guidelines to represent a voice for the athletes.
Adaptive athletes best understand their impairments, classifications and competition needs.
